Separation Anxiety in Dogs | There is Hope

Michael Baugh CDBC CPDT-KSA CSAT

You are not alone. And it’s not your fault. Separation Anxiety in dogs is more common than you might imagine. We aren’t 100% sure what causes it, but it’s quite clear it has nothing to do with loving your dog or giving too much (or too little) attention. In some respects it is a mystery. But, the path to recovery is not a mystery. There is help and you have every reason to be hopeful.

What is Separation Anxiety?

In short, it is a syndrome of panic-related behavior that occurs when your dog is left alone. It can occur at any age and it is not breed specific. The most common telltale behaviors in dogs with separation anxiety are:

  • Vocalization (barking, crying, howling)
  • Destructive behavior (digging or chewing at points of exit like doors and windows)
  • Loss of bladder and bowel control (pooping and peeing in the house)
  • Panting and pacing
  • Refusal to eat when you are gone

As a board certified veterinary behaviorist, I have experience working with trainers and behavior consultants across the nation. I have known, and worked with, Michael Baugh for several years now. I highly recommend him…

How We Help

Separation Anxiety training is actually not complicated. In fact, some of what you’ve read online probably has some truth in it. The trouble is that Separation Anxiety training is not always easy. That’s where we come in. Michael Baugh is a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer. He knows the path to progress and he’ll walk that path with you every step of the way. You can expect:

  • Clear instructions on how Separation Anxiety training works.
  • Answers to your questions – even the tough questions.
  • A thorough beginning assessment of your dog with video for a definitive starting point for your work together.
  • Custom, personalized, detailed instructions for your training every day. We call these training “missions.” Nothing is left to chance and you aren’t left to figure things out on your own.
  • Daily feedback, coaching and support.
  • Real-time data tracking – access to your dogs progress over time and analysis of factors related to any delays or setbacks in that progress.

Michael is fantastic. Very knowledgeable and takes the time to listen to our questions and concerns and build them into his training plan so it’s very personal and flexible based on our dog’s needs.

Michael Baugh, Houston dog trainerMichael Baugh CDBC CPDT-KSA CSAT. Michael started helping people with their dogs back in 1999. He’s a graduate of the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, The Karen Pryor Academy, countless seminars and courses (not to mention his university degrees and graduate studies). All that plus his more than two decades of experience adds up to a lot. But, what clients mention most is his ability to connect with them – to understand what they are going through and what is going on with their dogs – to create a space for learning and healing.

Pricing

Pricing for Separation Anxiety training varies from case to case. In many cases it is comparable to board and train training, though much more thorough and intensive in its value.

We ask clients to commit to four-week packages of training with their dog with the expectation that there will be a series of packages. This helps us build and maintain training momentum. Each dog progresses at a different pace (and the speed of progress accelerates and slows in each dog at various times). And, every person’s budget is different as well. So, it’s hard to predict the number of packages any one team (dog and family) will need or want.

Here’s how it’s set up:

Initial package (Four Weeks)

  • 30 minute phone call to get to know each other
  • Initial teal-time live video assessment of your dog
  • Daily detailed training protocols prepared for you 5-days a week
  • Weekly real-time live video assessments of your dog
  • Weekly one-0n-one time to discuss progress and troubleshoot issues
  • Real-time data tracking and analysis so you can see your dog’s progress as it unfolds

$925

I’ve been so pleased with our training experience with Michael, his knowledge is incredible! I wasn’t really sure how effective the remote zoom sessions might be, but there was no need to worry after all. The process has been so simple and convenient….
