Join Ken Ramirez for an exciting weekend of learning in Houston Texas. Ken teaches in a lively and engaging manner that is packed with useful information and rich with video examples of both pet training and zoo animal training. This event includes foundation information for new trainers presented in a way that is refreshing and thought provoking for more advanced trainers. The content of the weekend then builds on that foundation information, opening doors to new ways of thinking and teaching for trainers of all experience levels. Saturday: Introduction to Operant Conditioning - A thorough overview for beginners and a slightly different approach for advanced trainers who may have primarily worked with dogs. Reinforcement Strategies – Intermediate / Advanced content related to effectively and expertly using non-food reinforcement. An interesting new perspective with video examples.
Sunday (This day requires a fluent working knowledge of Operant Conditioning – appropriate for beginner and intermediate trainers who attend Saturday’s classes): Problem Solving - How to problem solve and find solutions to the most challenging behavior issues. This is designed as a strategic approach to help trainers at all levels find solutions to problems. Handling Animal Mistakes - An advanced class that examines the most popular tools to deal with animal mistakes. Although it is an advanced class – it is taught in a way that beginners can follow. Common Trainer Mistakes and How to Avoid Them - This focuses on the most common errors or short cuts that trainers take and discusses why those mistakes are a problem or concern. About Ken Ramirez
Ken Ramirez is the executive vice-president of animal care and animal training at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. Ken is a biologist and animal behaviorist with more than 35 years experience in animal care and training. Ken worked for nine years at Marineworld of Texas; He also was a trainer and coordinator at Ocean Safari in South Padre Island, Texas, as well as acting as a consultant to many zoo and aquarium programs throughout the world.
Ken began his training career working with guide dogs for the visually impaired and has maintained a close affiliation to pet training throughout his career. Today he is on the faculty of the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy for dog trainers.
